When I started teaching silk painting courses, my students asked me which kit they should buy to continue their silk painting journey at home. I couldn't find one which had everything in it they would need so, in collaboration with Silkcraft, I designed one. I am very pleased that my kit is so popular, and hope you enjoy painting with it. What's in the Silk Painting Starter Kit?
This amazing and comprehensive silk painting starter kit has everything you need to start painting on silk.

Now packaged in an eco-friendly white A5 size cardboard box, this is an ideal present for ages 8 and up, or why not treat yourself!
To upgrade this kit, consider adding a pair of 11” bar frames, to allow you to make larger pieces which will fit in an A4 size frame.
Full instructions for outlining, painting, mixing colours and setting your silk are included with this kit, and Jane Cameron has made an accompanying set of helpful Youtube videos to demonstrate the techniques.
Contents include:
- Instructions Including video link
- Habotai 8 Silk 30cmx90cm This silk is a bit thicker so it holds loads of colour to make your paintings look fabulous!
- 8x6 inch painting frame and pins. These are wonderful Siesta Bar Frames, with enough round 3-prong pins to hold your silk securely.
- 2 brushes, small and large, and a plastic palette.
- Fadeaway pen, to trace or sketch your designs on to the silk. This is UV active and will fade away in sunshine.
- Gold outliner and nib. This kit will contain a plastic tube of Marabu or Silkcraft outliner, and a 0.5mm nib. Always wash your nib in warm soapy water after outlining to keep it in good condition.
- 5 bottles of iron fixed silk paint. This goes a long way, and the colours can be mixed and diluted to create loads of fabulous colours, tints and shades.
- Bonus: Free pre-outlined card and envelope! This has been pre-ironed on to freezer paper so you can just paint it and then glue it straight into the card blank. The design will be randomly selected.
