I had a great time this week working on Liz Climo’s lovely free colouring page. It was originally A4 size so I enlarged it a bit and printed it out so I could trace it on to silk. It was a great exercise in fine outlining work and quite relaxing as I knew I couldn’t sell it. Besides, I rather fell in love with the octopus! My version is approx 18 inches square. Here’s a few pictures (I forgot to take progress pictures of this one … sorry!) If you like this idea, there are loads of free colouring pages out there on the internet, which are great to paint when you are getting started, but please remember that you can’t sell them. If you would like to find out more about developing your own designs, book a place on my Inspiration Day to find out how! (NB: Some prior silk painting experience is required). www.janecameron.co.uk/courses.html For those who don’t know who Liz Climo is, she’s a fabulous web comic artist and Simpsons animator. I have been having fun this week with a couple of new silk painted pieces, so I thought I'd share some progress pictures with you. These are 18" squares, which may turn into pictures or cushion covers at a later date depending on how they turn out. I really enjoy creating these pieces, and often use them as trials for larger items such as scarves. Once you have drawn your outlines and let them dry, it can be quite relaxing painting them. It makes a nice change from those adult colouring books which are in fashion at the moment, and you get a fantastic textile piece for your efforts rather than a bit of paper! If working with outliner isn't your thing, you can also buy all sorts of cards / scarves / cushion covers etc. with pre-printed designs on them - check out Silkcraft and Rainbow Silks who have quite a wide range. If you shop at Silkcraft, you can use the code GUILD1 for free P&P on your first online order. If you'd like to improve your outliner skills so you can create exciting silk pieces like these for yourself, then consider booking a place on one of my fabulous silk painting courses. In other news, I also now accept "CraftCourses" gift vouchers, as well as offering my own gift vouchers. Have fun! Jane :) Note: If you tend to use your colouring book to while away the time on trains, planes or in other moving vehicles then you may wish to stick with the paper version! PS Please do add me to your feed reader Welcome to my newly redesigned website with its fancy new integrated blog.
